Boro switches to new reverse-911 service

At its July 8 meeting, the Montvale Council passed a resolution entering into an agreement with the county for emergency services notification. In February, the Bergen County Board of Freeholders awarded a preliminary $150,000 contract to a Nutley-based company, Citizen Communication Center , or C3. The municipalities of Teaneck, Dumont, Ridgefield Park and Cliffside Park , among others, have already passed similar resolutions to enter into the agreement.

Troop 80 celebrates '100'

The rank of Eagle is the highest honor a Boy Scout can earn. Only two percent of all Boy Scouts attain it. When five scouts from Troop 80 were awarded that rank recently, it brought the total number of Troop 80 members to have achieved this distinguished honor to 101.

Council considers FieldTurf installation at Memorial Field

Township officials are considering an expenditure of up to $1 million on the installation of FieldTurf and lighting at Memorial Field, a project that was characterized as a “just in case” capital expenditure during the budget presentation in May.

Matthew Olds, of FieldTurf, a company that manufactures and installs synthetic playing surfaces that replicates grass for athletic fields, gave a presentation to Township officials at the July 21 council meeting, touting his product’s 10- to 12-year life span, annual savings of $30,000 to $40,000 on maintenance, an increase in potential use of the fields, and improved safety over the existing grass fields in the township.

On Monday, July 21, the emergency room of the former Pascack Valley Hospital was the scene of a major renovation; a hum of activity accompanied the movements of a work crew peeling wallpaper, unpacking building materials and installing equipment. But amidst the apparent chaos, the tangles of exposed wires and ductwork, among the bare ceiling beams and the naked walls, there was a palpable sense of potential, anticipation and rebirth.
