Earlier this year, The Greater Pascack Valley Woman’s Club welcomed five new members, who were installed at the club’s monthly meeting. Pictured from left are Judy Russo, of Montvale, the club’s first vice president; new members Helen Chimel, of Hillsdale; Sylvia Maurgeri and Mary Lynn Mazzarella of Park Ridge; Cathie Roberts, of Demarest, and Ellie Soehren, also of Park Ridge; and Bev Mancini, club president, of Park Ridge.

The Greater Pascack Valley Woman’s Club (GPVWC), a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC), is always looking for new members and it’s because the more members there are, the more community outreach programs and activities they club can undertake. The club was established in 1990 and currently has 42 members.

Five new members recently joined the club and were welcomed at the group’s monthly meeting. They are Cathie Roberts, of Demarest; Helen Chimel, of Hillsdale; and Sylvia Maugeri, Mary Lynn Mazzarella, and Ellie Soehren, all of Park Ridge .

Earlier this year, a contingent from the club joined nearly 100 other club women from across the state for the observance of the 100th anniversary of the first “Legislative Day.” Held in Trenton , the event was hosted by The Contemporary Trenton, one of 300 women’s clubs in the NJSFWC.

Among the legislators who addressed the group were Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37), sponsor of S105, “Domestic Violence Health Care Response Act;” Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-14), co-sponsor of A633, “Gynecological Cancer Education and Awareness Act; and Assemblywoman Marcia Karrow (R-23), sponsor of ACR111. This resolution would amend the state constitution to create a stable source of funding for the preservation of open space, drinking water resources, farmland and historic sites.

While in Trenton , members wrote letters in support of A1792 and S993, to establish the New Jersey Task Force on Domestic Violence and Abuse. They also toured the State House and visited the Senate Gallery.

The NJSFWC was founded in 1894 and has been headquartered on the campus of Douglass College in New Brunswick since 1966. The state federation is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, the oldest and largest non-partisan, non-denominational women’s volunteer organization in the world. Opportunities for women in education, leadership and community service are provided through participation in local clubs, enabling members to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
