Sports Round-up Oct. 1

Boys soccer was 1-1 for the week with a 6-0 loss to
New Milford on Sept. 23 and a 7-1 victory against Saddle River Day on Sept. 24. Zac Azmi scored three goals and Hayden Duffy scored two against Saddle River Day.
Park Ridge was 1-1 for the week with a 3-0 loss to Leonia on Sept. 22 and a 4-2 win against
New Milford on Sept. 24. Andrew Kirshteyn scored two goals against
New Milford and Brian Sloan recorded 12 saves for the week.
Pascack Hills was 1-1 last week with a 1-0 loss to
Pascack
Valley on Sept. 23 and a 2-0 victory over Demarest on Sept. 26. Jason Winikoff recorded 21 saves in the two games.
Boys soccer was 1-1 for the week with a 1-0 victory over Pascack Hills on Sept. 23 and a 3-1 loss to Ramapo on Sept. 26. Brian Lango recorded six saves against Ramapo.
On Monday, Sept. 22, St. Joseph beat
Passaic 1-0. Ismael Giusfredi scored the single goal, with an assist from Vinny Macaluso. Julian Nazario had three saves.
On Wednesday, Sept. 24,
Rutherford defeated Westwood 2-1. Jon Seligman recorded eight saves in the game.
Girls soccer went 2-0 last week with a 1-0 victory over Hawthorne Christian on Sept. 22 and a 2-0 win against Leonia on Sept. 25. Marissa Cerniglia scored two goals.
IHA continued its undefeated season with a 5-0 victory over Paramus Catholic on Sept. 23 and 2-0 win against Pascack Hills on Sept. 27. Rachel Wechsler scored three goals in the week.
Park Ridge won both of its games last week, a 7-0 victory over Hawthorne Christian on Sept. 23 and a 3-0 win against Saddle River Day on Sept. 25. Freshman Rebecca Skovira scored a hat trick in the game against Saddle River Day, leading the Owls, 4-2, with six goals scored in the first six games.
Girls soccer went 1-1 for the week with a 3-0 win against Demarest on Sept. 25 and 2-0 loss to IHA on Sept. 27. Meredith Schlussel recorded 15 saves for the week.
On Friday, Sept. 26,
Pascack
Valley defeated Ramapo 2-1. Pamela Vangelas scored two goals with assists from Terry Ely. Traci Corra recorded 11 saves.
Westwood went 0-2 last week, losing 3-0 loss to River Dell on Sept. 23 and 6-3 to
Rutherford on Sept. 25. Stephanie Senkavich recorded 19 saves for the week.
On Friday, Sept. 26, Emerson defeated
Harrison 14-0. In the fourth quarter, Tim Vogel scored on a 50-yard run and Jason Serra scored on a 12-yard run with extra points from kicker Ryan Gibbard.
On Friday, Sept. 26.
Park Ridge defeated Palisades Park/Leonia 40-0. In the first quarter, Kevin Hwang scored a touchdown on an 85-yard kickoff return, with an extra point by Luis Cardoso. A second touchdown was scored by Matt Moreno on a 26-yard pass from Matt Misley with an extra point, followed by a third touchdown by Tom Klepper’s 20-yard run and extra point. In the second quarter, John Duffy scored on a 10-yard pass from Misley for a 27-0 lead. In the third quarter, Klepper scored again with a 40-yard run, followed by
Moreno ’s 35-yard interception return.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, Pascack Hills defeated
Ridgefield 34-20. In the first quarter, Ryan Hansen scored a touchdown on a 22-yard run. In the second quarter, Steven Altano scored on a 26-yard run followed by a second touchdown by Hansen on a 3-yard run from Chet Palumbo’s pass from Hugh Kirwan. In the third quarter, Hansen scored two more touchdowns on a 19-yard run and 50-yard run, finishing the game with four touchdowns.
On Saturday, Sept. 27,
Pascack
Valley defeated Ramsey 24-7. In the first quarter, Matt Buesser scored a touchdown on a 22-yard fumble recovery and Kyle Hartwick converted the extra point. Hartwick also made a 27-yard field goal. In the second quarter, Paul Koehler scored on a 23-yard pass from Mike Loganchuk. In the third quarter, Koehler scored again on a 51-yard pass from Loganchuk. Ramsey scored in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough.
On Sunday, Sept. 28, Westwood defeated
Ridgefield
Park 15-12. In the first quarter, Rob Schneider had a 1-yard run for a touchdown with an extra point by Ryan Condon. After Ridgefield Park scored two touchdowns in the third and beginning of the fourth quarter, Westwood responded with a touchdown down on a 1-yard run by Matt Svorinic with Ricky Moore’s reception from Schneider for the two-point conversion.
On Wednesday, Sept. 24, boys finished with 20 points to Cresskill’s 35 and with 32 points to
Bogota ’s 23. Steve Sagona placed fourth with 18:08, Chris Walker placed fifth with 18:15, and Travis Cwirko placed seventh with 18:32. The girls finished 50 points while
Bogota and Cresskill had 15 each. Melissa Origoni placed second with 21:59 and Molly McKendry placed sixth with 23:35. On Saturday, Sept. 27,
Park Ridge finished with a team score of 111 in the Passaic County Coaches Invitational. Sagona placed eighth with 17:56,
Walker placed thirteenth with 18:18, and Cwirko placed twentieth with 18:49.
On Monday, Sept. 22, boys finished 15 points against Bergenfield, which had 49 points, and with 26 points to
Wayne
Hills ’ 29. Taylor Trumbetti placed first with 17:32. David Puleo placed third with 17:47. Michael Tillison placed sixth with18:37. Sam Dember placed seventh with 18:40. Girls finished 15 to Bergenfield with 50 and 41 to
Wayne
Hills with 18. Krista LaRezza placed fourth with 22:01 and Julieanne Fontana placed sixth with 22:55. On Saturday, Sept. 27, boys finished with 131 points in the Passaic County Coaches Invitational. Trumbetti placed eighth with 16:52 and Puleo placed twentieth with 17:56. In girls, the team finished with 163. LaRezza placed eleventh with 21:18.
On Monday, Sept. 22, boys finished 20 points to Mahwah’s 39 and with 24 points to Ramapo’s 33. Dan Pescatore placed second with 17:33. Luke Nowicki placed third with 17:51. Mike Metrione placed seventh with 19:05. Girls finished 48 to Mahwah with 15 and 50 to Ramapo with 15.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, boys finished 27 points to Cliffside Park’s 28, with 15 points to Queen of Peace’s 50, and with 15 points to
Englewood ’s 50. Louie Schiedeler placed first with 17:01. Zack Mower placed fourth with 18:02. Dan Murtaugh placed sixth with 18:29. Girls finished 26 to Cliffside Park with 29, 15 to
Englewood with 50, and 15 to Queen of Peace with 50. Teresa Gagliostro placed first with 20:29. Ceile Brennan placed second with 20:38. Meghan Kocher placed fifth with 22:39.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Emerson defeated Dwight-Englewood 2-0. Monica Lee had 10 assists and Laura Wall four kills.
IHA was 3-0 for the week with a 2-1 victory over Hunterdon Central on Sept. 23, a 2-0 win against Passaic on Sept. 24, and a 2-0 victory over
Belleville on Sept. 25. Kristin Flatekval recorded 69 assists for the week and Ariel Scott recorded 37 kills.
Park Ridge was 0-3 for the week with a 2-1 loss to Hawthorne Christian on Sept. 23, a 2-0 loss to
Bogota on Sept. 25, and a 2-0 loss to Cresskill on Sept. 26. Brielle Buckman recorded 16 digs in the game against
Bogota .
Girls volleyball was 3-0 for the week with 2-0 victories against Bergenfield on Sept. 23 and
Pascack
Valley on Sept. 24, and a 2-1 win against Demarest on Sept. 26. Jessica Lomia recorded 52 assists for the week.
Pascack
Valley was 1-2 for the week with a 2-1 victory against Ramsey on Sept. 23 and a 2-0 loss to Pascack Hills on Sept. 24 and Ramapo on Sept. 26. Stephanie Schneider recorded 35 digs for the week.
Westwood was 1-3 for the week with a 2-0 loss to River Dell on Sept. 22, Rutherford on Sept. 24, and Tenafly on Sept. 26, and a 2-1 win against
Union City on Sept. 27. Haley Dukes recorded 17 kills, Angela Campo recorded 17 assists, and Jessica Echeverry recorded 18 digs in the week.
Girls tennis was 0-3 for the week with a 5-0 loss to Dwight-Englewood on Sept. 22 and Cresskill on Sept. 23, and 3-2 loss to
Park Ridge on Sept. 25. Sabrina Naumovski defeated her opponent 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) and Salmiyeh Khan and Eunice Yo defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-1.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, IHA defeated
Teaneck 5-0. In singles, Ally Landers was victorious 6-1, 6-0, Dana Ferrari 6-0, 6-1, and Hayley Downing 6-0, 6-2. In doubles, Lauren Iannelli and Carly Piccinich were victorious 6-2, 6-2 and Nicole Chimolek and Maggie Von Seekamm 6-0, 6-0.
Park Ridge was 1-2 for the week with a 3-2 victory against Emerson on Sept. 25 and 5-0 losses to Saddle River Day on Sept. 22 and
New Milford on Sept. 23. In the match against Emerson, Lauren Mazzei defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0, Rachel Bartz defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-3, and Stephanie Baumann and Priscilla Kim defeated their opponents 6-4, 7-5.
Pascack Hills continues to be undefeated with a 9-0 record to date, finishing 2-0 for the week with 5-0 victories against Indian Hills on Sept. 22 and Mahwah on Sept. 25. Against Indian Hills, Gabby Drucker defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-0, Michelle Feldman defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1, and Sarah Spellman defeated hers 6-3, 6-0 and Dani Stern and Julie Griggs defeated their opponents 6-3, 7-5, and Harli Thau and Sam Wolfin defeated theirs 6-4, 6-1. Against Mahwah, Nicole Eisbrouch defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-2, Feldman defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1, and Brittany Palish defeated her opponent 6-4, 7-6 (11-9). Thau and Stern defeated their opponents 6-2, 6-3 and Griggs and Stephanie Mactas defeated their opponents 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Indian Hills and Mahwah defeated
Pascack
Valley 4-1 and 5-0.
On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Westwood defeated
Fort Lee 3-2. In singles, Laura Arietta defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0, Ilana Asserson defeated her opponent 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, and Chelsea Raigo defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Westwood was 2-1 for the week with a 3-0 victory against Hackensack on Sept. 24, a 2-1 loss to River Dell on Sept. 22 and a 7-0 loss to
Montclair on Sept. 26. Allison Gordon scored two goals in the week.
Pascack
Valley is 2-0 for the week, finishing with 99.725 to Fair Lawn’s 62.825 on Sept. 23 and 106.076 to
Ridgewood with 103.6 on Sept. 26. Against Fair Lawn, Alexandrea Kolodko placed first in the vault with 8.65, Lindsay Bloom placed first in the floor routine with 8.85 and first in the balance beam with 8.5, Tara Rosenberg placed first on the uneven bars with 9.4, and Erica Rosner placed first all around with 31.975. Against Ridgewood,
Rosenberg placed first in the floor routine with 9.2. Megan Phelan placed first on the uneven bars with 9.5. Audrey Donahue placed first on the balance beam with 9.2.
