The celebration of the 200th anniversary of the opening of the first public school in Park Ridge has inspired many to mark the historic event. Not the least of these are members of the Park Ridge High School Class of 1948, who have organized a 60th reunion to coincide with Homecoming Weekend, the centerpiece of which is the Park Ridge Owls football team’s home game on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Winifred Bramley, Class of 1948, said that some 30 members of the 72-member class will be attending some or all of the festivities [See Reunion Schedule, page 56].

Dolly Lewis, a Park Ridge High graduate, and Bernice Misley, who was president of PEP – Parents and Educators in Partnership at the school – have some experience in planning Homecoming activities. When their sons played football for the Owls in the 1970s, they were in charge of the parade and are fulfilling that same role this month, organizing the alumni who will march in the parade.

“We are hoping this Homecoming is a huge event,” they said. All alumni from Park Ridge schools are invited to participate in a number of activities on Oct. 18, starting with a continental-style breakfast at East Brook Elementary School. “Alumni and anyone else interested in being a part of the parade can attend,” organizers advise, but they must contact either Holly Misley DeSimone at hbdesimone@aim.com or Heather Misely Nicolas at hnic2627@yahoo.com in advance.

The Class of 1948 will have its own section in the parade, which will kick-off from East Brook at 11 a.m. and proceed to the high school. After the parade, everyone will be invited to be part of a group photo at the high school. The photo’s theme is, “Past, Present and Future.”

After the photo, all alumni are invited to take a guided tour of the high school. The football game against Bogota High, begins at 1:30 p.m.
