The Pascack Valley Regional Board of Education officially “re-opened”
Pascack
Valley
High School Saturday, Oct. 20 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, commentary from administrators, and guided tours of the new facilities led by members of the Student Council.
Barbara Sapienza, principal of
Pascack
Valley , said, “I’m so proud to be in a district that puts the students first. We have a high-level curriculum and high standards, and our results are high-achieving students. Sapienza thanked the many students and faculty who had been “flexible” for the duration of the construction, and gave special thanks to the custodial and maintenance crews who daily performed chores above and beyond, because of the construction.
School Superintendent Benedict Tantillo echoed Sapienza, singling out Bill Fahey and Ed Schwader of the custodial and maintenance/construction staff and added that while it took years to complete, “this is the first construction undertaken here in over 30 years.”
Sheila Lichtstein, speaking for the Board of Education, said that she was certainly proud of the results, but she was proud that those results stemmed from a referendum in which each voting district approved the outlay. She told those awaiting the tour that what they would see would be profoundly and surprisingly positive, but that the new additions and changes would have profound effects in the future.
Tantillo added, just before aiding in the ribbon cutting, that the community had sent a strong message based on past lapses in maintenance. “They told us, ‘If you do this, take care of it,’ and we have added appropriate custodial and maintenance staff to ensure that it will look as you see it – for a long time to come.”
