WESTWOOD RECREATION
Register for pre-school winter/spring session
The Westwood Recreation Department has a limited number of openings for its pre-school program for Winter/Spring, 2009. Registration will take place on Monday, Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. at the Community Center, 55 Jefferson Ave.
The program is open to children who are 3 to 5 years old (as of 10/1/08). The Winter/Spring session begins on Jan. 5 and ends on June 5 for a total of 20 weeks at a cost of $600. Classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The program is a state licensed pre-school and meets at the Community Center, which has a separate classroom for the children and an indoor play area. A core curriculum which includes teaching gross and fine motor skills, social and cognitive skills is followed.
The pre-school is led by Head Teacher Diane Russell who has worked for the Cresskill School System for 12 years and the Cresskill Co-op Pre-School for four years. Russell is also the director of the pre-school summer program.

EMERSON
Fun with balloons on Monday, Dec. 8
The Emerson Community School will offer a hands-on workshop for area residents on the art of balloon sculpting. The course will be taught by Mike Lewis and his young assistant, Samantha Lewis, on Monday evening, Dec. 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Participants will learn the tricks of twisting balloons into all sorts of shapes and designs, from animals to funny hats.
There is a $20 fee, plus a $5 material fee to cover the cost of the balloons. Children under 14 years of age may attend for $10 if they are accompanied by a paying adult.

PARK RIDGE ELKS
Blood drive to be held on Monday, Dec. 8
A Park Ridge Community Blood Drive, in cooperation with Community Blood Services, will be held on Monday, Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Park Ridge Elks Lodge on 13 Sulak Lane. To schedule an appointment, call 201-251-3703.
All blood types are needed, especially Types 0- and 0+. Any healthy individual, age 17 through 75, and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation.
