Wheelchair basketball tournament to be held

The 13th Annual Al Youakim Wheelchair Basketball Tournament will be held from Friday to Sunday, Nov. 2 to 4.
The namesake of the tournament, a longtime resident of the borough, died last month at age 82. He was known as the “Father of Wheelchair Basketball,” and his 50th year of volunteer service to adaptive sports athletes was marked by the establishment of the tournament. He continued to coach teams and support sports for the disabled until shortly before his death.
This year’s tournament, which will take place at the
Hackensack
Middle School , features several teams including the United Spinal Nets; the Nassau Kings; the Bulova Renegades; the New England Blazers, and the N.Y. Rolling Knicks. Games will be played continuously as follows:
Friday, Nov. 2 – 6 to 10 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 3 – 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Nov. 3, begin at 9 a.m. and culminating with the championship game that will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by awards presentations.
The public is invited to attend.
