Man killed while crossing street
A 75-year-old man, a resident of SunRise Assisted Living in
Woodcliff
Lake , was hit by a car and killed on Dec. 19 while trying to cross Chestnut Ridge Road.
Police officers were dispatched at 5:42 p.m. to the area of 430 Chestnut Ridge Road for a report of a pedestrian struck in the roadway by an automobile.
Woodcliff Lake Police responded and were assisted by both Montvale and
Park Ridge police. TriBoro Ambulance and paramedics also responded.
The victim was struck by a car traveling northbound on Chestnut Ridge Road, a six-lane county road. According to police, it appears the pedestrian was coming from Tice Corners and was attempting to cross the roadway walking east. The weather conditions were rainy, and visibility was limited due to darkness.
The driver of the vehicle was a 52-year-old female, who was uninjured.
Investigators from the Woodcliff Lake Traffic Bureau, with the assistance of the Bergen County Fatal Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene.
The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to
Hackensack
Medial
Center , where he was pronounced dead at 6:57 p.m. His name has not been release, pending notification.
No criminal charges being filed against the driver of the vehicle, according to Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Marty Delaney.
