Boro seeks to broadcast with Verizon
(by Kevin Glynn - January 23, 2008)
At the Tuesday, Jan. 15 council meeting, Councilman William Kirk asked the council to look into adding Verizon to its list of cable providers that broadcasts borough council meetings and other information.
Currently, council meetings are shown live on Cablevision Channel 77. The tape from the Cablevision coverage is then sent to U.S. Cable and played after the meeting. The borough does not currently have an agreement with Verizon.
Kirk said that before the meeting, he flipped through Verizon’s public access channels and found coverage for Westwood,
Township of
Washington , and
Park Ridge .
“I think it’s worthwhile in pursuing if we can have it available to our citizens,” Kirk said.
Mayor John Sapanara agreed that with Verizon gaining a larger share in the cable market, the town should make an effort to provide coverage to residents who have Verizon’s Fios.
Administrator Harold Karns said he would reach out to Verizon and try to set up a meeting to discuss it.
