Basketball courts to be ready in spring

(by Kevin Glynn - January 23, 2008)

Due to what borough officials are calling an early winter, the basketball courts at Memorial Field will not be ready until sometime this spring.

According to Borough Engineer Chris Statile, the courts should be ready to be paved sometime in April. They will then be striped and a protective coating will be added. The borough hopes that the courts will be ready for use by the end of April.

The courts were torn up in October last year due to safety concerns. A lip around the edge that had been used to fill the courts with water for ice skating in the winter was determined to be too close in proximity to the hoops. Then Mayor Dennis Deutsch reached out to businesses in the area who are sponsoring the revamping of the courts in exchange for advertisements that will be displayed on benches and on the backboards.

After the demolition, the courts were supposed to be repaved in November or early December but an early December snowfall threw the plans off.
