Boro to meet with redeveloper

(by Karen F. Mrnarevic - January 23, 2008)

The Borough of Emerson has scheduled a meeting with its selected developer to discuss the downtown redevelopment project. Mayor Lou Lamatina, Administrator Joseph Scarpa, Borough Attorney Philip Boggia and Councilman Chris Heyer, the real estate liaison, have been asked to meet with Millenium Homes on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m.

The borough hopes to work out the details of Millenium’s plan and revisit the issue of optimal residential densities within the redevelopment zone. Burgis Associates, the borough planner, has reworked a document analyzing property values that will contribute to the borough’s assessment of Millenium’s plan.

Millenium is scheduled to present its plans to the public at the council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m.

According to Lamatina, the borough also has plans to meet with the Department of Community Affairs Office of Smart Growth on March 20. Lamatina will travel to Trenton to meet with DOiT (Development Oppertunities Interagency Team) representatives to help make sure that the project is moving in the right direction.

DOiT is composed of nine state agencies: the Department of Transportation; the Board of Public Utilities; the Economic Development Authority; the Housing, Mortgage and Finance Agency; Commerce; The Department of Environmental Protection; NJ Transit; the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority; and the Department of Community Affairs.

The mission of this team is to assist local officials and developers with redevelopment projects.
