2008-2009 budget is sole topic of Monday, March 3 meeting

(by Kathryn A. Burger - February 27, 2008)

The Park Ridge Board of Education will hold a public meeting on Monday, March 3 dedicated solely to the 2008-2009 budget.

As reported, the board approved a preliminary budget at its Feb. 11 meeting. Business Administrator Robert Wright characterized the budget as, “technical,” and not final. The board was required to submit a budget by Feb. 15 to the Bergen County Superintendent of Schools Aaron R. Graham, who acts on behalf of the state. He has until March 19 to make his ruling, but administrators are hopeful that his ruling will be made by the beginning of March.

In addition to the budget, the district has also asked for approval to place a second question on the ballot and has requested five cap waivers that would allow the district to exceed its state-mandated tax cap of four percent on specific line items. District administrators have stressed that approval of these requests does not obligate the district to use any or all of them. It gives the district options as the board continues to fine-tune the budget.

A Public Hearing on the final budget will be held on Monday, March 24.

The March 3 meeting will be held in the high school library beginning at 8 p.m.
