Township settles Edgewood Country Club tax appeal
On Monday, Feb. 25, the River Vale Council authorized Township Attorney Holly Schepisi to settle a tax appeal dating back more than one decade.
The Edgewood Country Club, located at 449 Rivervale Road, filed a tax appeal for years going back to 1996. The matter was pending in tax court and slated to go to trial, but “we finally have a settlement that we believe has been accepted by both sides,” Schepisi explained Monday night.
Rather than give Edgewood Country Club a rebate, the settlement involves a $200,000 reduction in taxes over the next seven years. The club will receive $25,000 reductions annually for five years and $50,000 reductions for the remaining two years. Schepisi said that the municipality will only pick up a portion of the reduction.
The council authorized Schepisi to move forward with the settlement by a vote of 4-0; Councilman Noel Matos was absent.
