Historical preservation commission to be established
(by Megan Burrow - March 19, 2008)
An ordinance was passed on second and final reading Tuesday night establishing a historical preservation commission. The commission will serve to enhance, preserve, and protect historically significant buildings and districts in the borough.
There will be seven members and two alternates on the commission, ideally with backgrounds in historical architecture, conservation, cultural anthropology, and planning.
The commission will review applications for additions, alterations, and demolitions of buildings in town, and make recommendations to the planning and zoning boards. It will serve in a strictly advisory capacity and will not have the final say in decisions. The planning and zoning boards will still be the ultimate judge of any applications they receive.
