Water main installation begins
The installation of a water main that began in Hillsdale last December will continue in the
Township of
Washington . United Water of New Jersey has contracted J. Fletcher Creamer and Sons Inc. to install the water main.
Construction began on Colonial Boulevard in
Township of
Washington on March 17 at the Hillsdale border and will run south to Washington Avenue. During construction, Colonial Boulevard will be closed to through-traffic between Washington and Fernwood avenues. F/Sgt. Gregg Hackbarth of the township’s police department estimates that the Colonial Boulevard construction will continue through April 11.
When this phase of installation is complete, the second phase will commence on Washington Avenue at Colonial Boulevard and continue east until its completion point on Washington Avenue at Lafayette Avenue in Westwood.
During this second phase, Washington Avenue will initially be closed to through-traffic for eastbound vehicles going towards Westwood at Pascack Road for several days. After the contruction clears the intersection of Washington Avenueand Colonial Boulevard, eastbound Washington Avenuetraffic will be detoured onto either north-or southbound Colonial Boulevard.
The entire time that the installation is progressing on Washington Avenue, westbound Washington Avenue traffic coming from Westwood will be detoured onto southbound Lafayette Avenue in Westwood.
Hackbarth estimates that the second phase will take approximately nine weeks to complete and advises residents to expect traffic delays during that time. In particular, drivers traveling on Washington Avenue between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. should plan alternate routes. Additionally, drivers that use Washington Avenue to either enter or exit the Garden State Parkway should choose alternate entry and exit points, such as Ridgewood Avenue in
Paramus .
