Hospital zoning ordinance postponed until after closing
(by Megan Burrow - April 29, 2008)
The hearing of an ordinance revising the zoning use of the former grounds of Pascack Valley Hospital has been delayed.
The ordinance was scheduled for public hearing at the April 22 council meeting, but was delayed because the closing date of the purchase of the hospital by Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) and Touro University had been pushed back to April 30.
A special meeting scheduled for April 14, in which HUMC/Touro would outline its plans for the hospital to the public, has also been postponed to a later date. Mayor John Birkner said he would like the public to hear the plans for the site before the hearing of the zoning change. Once the real estate transaction is complete, the council will reschedule the public meeting and the hearing of the ordinance.
Birkner reported he is “looking forward to having that presentation as soon as the hospital closing takes place.”
