Borough has new ideas for intersection of 4th and Forest

(by Megan Burrow - April 29, 2008)
Westwood officials are investigating new options to slow down the traffic at the intersection of 4th and Forest avenues.

Borough Engineer Steven Boswell reported at last week’s council meeting that he spoke with the County Engineer about the intersection and requested that the county investigate installing rumble strips to reduce the speed of cars driving through.

Over the past few months many options for the intersection have been discussed and dismissed. The latest variation of signage is a yield-ahead sign followed by a yield, and a sign further down the road warning drivers to turn off their blinkers.

Boswell said he agrees with the county’s decision not to install a stop sign. “It would have been almost the equivalent of traffic backing up into a lane on a highway,” he said.

The county has requested accident reports from the period of 2005 to the present and is investigating ways to slow the traffic down without coming to a complete stop.
