Township discovers un-zoned parcel of land on Cedar Lane

When an application to change the use of a gas station in River Vale to a service station came before the planning board recently, an interesting quality of the land was uncovered: it has no designation on township maps. In other words, it is zoned for nothing.
“Urgency is of the essence,” pleaded Nancy Saccente, the Hillsdale-based attorney representing Rossell Citgo, the gas station located on Cedar Lane in the township. Saccente asked the council to zone the area as soon as possible as the planning board is questioning whether the application would be better suited for review by the zoning board.
“All I’m asking is you act as quickly as possible so we can move forward.”
Township Attorney Holly Schepisi said that the un-zoned parcel would be zoned as an extension of the land around it. She said the council could act on the zoning discrepancy at the next meeting on Monday, April 12.
