Six new members appointed to Shade Tree Committee

In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, River Vale Mayor Joseph Blundo appointed six new members of the township’s Shade Tree Committee Monday night.
“Over the last couple of years, we’ve gotten away from a responsibility we have to the community,” said Blundo, swearing in Michael Beukas, Seda Kalagian, Ron Manke, Diane Calogero and Susanne McMann at the April 28 council meeting. Philip Neville was absent from the meeting.
“It’s a diverse group of people from different backgrounds,” the mayor continued. “What’s great is that it’s new people,” offering fresh perspectives on Shade Tree Committee responsibilities.
The committee’s first order of business, said Blundo, is to plant a vegetative buffer between the new Community Center and North Firehouse properties and the residential John Street neighborhood.
Additionally, the committee will be charged with reviewing development plans with regard to saving and replacing trees.
“It’s an important responsibility,” said Blundo. “I thank you for giving back to your community.”
