New DPW building deemed an eyesore by some residents
(by Maggie Fazeli Fard - April 29, 2008)
A month before the estimated completion date of the township’s new DPW building, Mayor Joseph Blundo reported that he’s been getting complaints. In short, some residents think the structure is just plain ugly, and the mayor said he can’t help but agree.
“I didn’t envision it that close to the road,” said Blundo, who approved the building’s construction when he was a councilman. “It looks like a shed. We have what we have, [but] we should do what we can.”
Township Engineer Dennis Harrington said that he is aware of the concerns and has already met with DPW Superintendent Richard Campanelli to discuss using plantings to “pretty up” the property.
Harrington reported that the interior and exterior work on the building is finishing up. He said that the structure should be complete by mid-May, alleviating concerns that the building, which falls in the parade route, would be unsightly on Memorial Day.
