In addition to the routine appointments made at board re-organization meetings – the school physician, auditor, affirmative action officer, etc. – a new president was elected when the Park Ridge Board of Education met on May 5. One new board member took the oath of office and one of two incumbents who retained their seats on the board was sworn in.
Robert Sileo, the top vote-getter in the April election, was sworn in for his first three-year term. Barbara von Bradsky, who was elected to her third consecutive term, also took the oath. Frank Church, who also won his third consecutive full term, was not at the meeting.
When nominations for board president were solicited, Dan Browne, who served as president upon Alan Belthoff giving up that position several months ago, nominated Joseph Bruno, who was elected unanimously. Belthoff did not run for re-election. Browne was similarly elected to serve as vice president.
Browne will also serve as the board’s representative to the Joint Board of Education/Borough Council Committee. Church was appointed in absentia as the board’s delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association; Sileo will be the delegate to the Bergen County School Boards Association, and Von Bradsky was appointed the board’s legislative representative.
The usual appointment of ad hoc committees was postponed at the request of Sileo. He asked that the board put off designating such groups pending a discussion of the board’s organizational structure and direction. All agreed to schedule the discussion in the near future.
