Township sees $7,000 cost decrease in janitorial services
(by Maggie Fazeli Fard - May 13, 2008)
On Monday, May 12, the River Vale Council awarded a janitorial services contract to Ocean Clean of Cedar Grove for $16,980 with an option to provide services to the library for an additional $5,346.
The township previously paid $24,000 for janitorial services, not including the library option.
Ocean Clean’s $16,980 bid was the lowest of six bids received. The previous vendor’s bid was the second lowest, coming in again at $24,000, and the highest bid came in at approximately $73,000.
Township Administrator Bob Gallione attributed the disparity between bids and the bargain price of the lowest bid to healthy competition, but resident Ron Tucci questioned the quality of the less expensive services.
“That’s really cheap. That’s red flag cheap,” said Tucci, adding that he hopes the company will pay its employees what the law requires.
Gallione assured Tucci that he had received references regarding Ocean Clean’s work.
