Westwood Regional Junior-Senior 2005 graduate E.J. Schuck is demonstrating his tremendous athletic abilities on
Lehigh
University ’s track and field team.
A junior at the university, Schuck is studying industrial engineering, but still finds time to serve as co-captain of his team under Matt Utesch, 11-year head track and field coach for men and women at Lehigh. In addition, he participates in two campus activities including Student Athlete Mentors and Student Athlete Council.
At the ECAC/IC4A Championships at
Boston
University , Lehigh ended the first day with the men’s team in 12th place, in part due to Schuck’s stellar performance in the men’s heptathlon. After the day’s four heptathlon events, Schuck had 2,741 points, positioning him in eighth place. His top finish in these events was his fourth place position in the high jump competition, where he jumped 1.88 meters, a mere 0.22 meters behind the event’s leader.
By the end of the first day at the Winthrop Invitational on Friday, March 28 in
Rock Hill, S.C. , Schuck had a first place finish, two second place finishes, and two third place finishes through the five events of the men’s decathlon. The following day, Schuck was posted as an event winner taking first place in the decathlon with 6,368 points, bringing him to a new personal record, in addition to breaking the school’s past records for track and field.
Schuck’s season achievements do not end here, as he was just named to the all-Patriot League outdoor track team, after finishing second in the decathlon at the Patriot League meet. He finished second in the shot put and 110-meter hurdles, in addition to winning the long jump and high jump.
Schuck says of his many athletic achievements, “It is a product of good coaching and a lot of commitment to the team.”
