Boro seeks grants to acquire property
(by Kevin Glynn - June 04, 2008)
The borough council unanimously approved a resolution to hire Jack Doyle, former borough administrator of
Woodcliff
Lake , and more recently of Montvale, on a contractual basis to acquire open space grants in its ongoing effort to acquire the Hathaway property, which is adjacent to the Old Mill Complex.
One of the mayor and council’s goals for this year is to acquire additional properties for park and recreation purposes. According to Doyle, four additional homes could be build on the Hathaway property, so if the land falls into the hands of a developer, it is unlikely the borough would be able to purchase it.
Doyle will work with Borough Administrator Ed Sandve and Borough Engineer Elliot Sachs of Boswell Engineering in submitting the applications, which are due June 27.
His payment, a $14,000 maximum, will be based on the success of the applications.
Grant writers normally get 10 percent of the grant amount they acquire, and while Mayor Joseph LaPaglia would not say how much grant money Doyle will apply for, he says the work is coming at a huge discount for the borough. “It’s a very advantageous deal for the town,” he said.
