Winter track team wins sectional title

The Park Ridge High School Winter Boys Track Team was honored at a recent board of education meeting. Team sports took the spotlight at a recent Park Ridge Board of Education Meeting. Among the teams honored by the board was the high school’s Boys Track Team.
Chris Brown, the school’s athletic director, said, “This team made history over the winter season, claiming the school’s first-ever Group 1 North 1 State Sectional Championship.” He said the team was, “led by a strong senior class that continues to keep the winning tradition going in the spring season.” The spring track teams both won their respective league titles, he said, “and the boys just captured the Bergen County Championship.”
Senior Winter Track Team members are Erik Antokal, John Delfin-Skovira, Brian Desmond, Israel Herrera, Sam Janssen, Jason Kim, Ross Koehler, Dan Kreisler, Matt Lingham, and Keith Xu. Juniors are Kevin Desmond, Greg Hoffman, Jaewon In and Chris Walker. Sophomores are Jason Antokal, Devon Kirk, William Owen, Tom Rizzie and Tom Sanderson.
Brown said, “The team performed well all year, but saved their best performance for the Sectional Meet. They scored in almost every event and had wins in the 800, 1600, and 4x400 relay, and the Pole Vault. This victory clearly placed Park Ridge Winter Track on the map and the memory of the team hoisting the sectional trophy is a crowning moment for the program.”
The coaches were also acknowledged. Brown said Coach Mark Ledgerwood was unable to attend the meeting due to a prior commitment, but added, “We are fortunate to have with us Coach Danielle Centurione as well as volunteer coach Andy Washnik.” Brown said, “The coaching staff is thrilled for the seniors and finds this a fitting way to cap their Winter Track careers.”
