2008 road resurfacing program awarded to D&L Paving

(by Maggie Fazeli Fard - June 11, 2008)

At its Monday, June 9 meeting, the River Vale Council – in cooperation with fellow Pascack Valley Cooperative Pricing Agreement members Emerson, Hillsdale, Old Tappan, Oradell, Park Ridge, Westwood, Woodcliff Lake – awarded its 2008 road improvement program to D&L Paving Contractors, Inc.

The Cooperative Pricing Agreement allowed the towns to bid jointly on capital projects such as road improvements, as well as share services and equipment, in an effort to save money.

The township will pay $235,783 for improvements to Cambridge Road, Stanley Place, Aster Lane, Barr Court and Baylor Avenue. The estimated engineering cost for the project was $339,623, translating to a savings of $103,840 thanks to the joint bid.

Also on June 9, the council authorized the township’s engineering firm, T&M Associates, to submit a grant application to the Department of Transportation (DOT) for improvements to Brookside Avenue as part of its 2009 road program.

Township Engineer Dennis Harrington of T&M Associates said that he already submitted a discretionary aid application for the Brookside Avenue project and that the DOT aid application can be considered a backup plan.

Harrington added that the township should select a secondary road for the DOT grant in case Brookside is awarded discretionary aid. The DOT application is due June 20 and the administration is expected to select a second choice by the end of this week.
