Map amended to include missing piece

(by Maggie Fazeli Fard - June 11, 2008)

On Monday, June 9, the River Vale Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the township’s zoning map to include a parcel of land that was previously un-zoned.

It was discovered that the land was zoned for nothing when Rossell Citgo, a gas station located on Cedar Lane in the township, submitted an application to the planning board to change its use from gas station to service station.

The zoning map amendment designates the property as part of the residential zone that surrounds it, allowing the application for a change in use to move forward.

Residents neighboring the gas station had mistakenly received notice that zoning in the area was being changed from a “B” to an “A” residential zone, but members of the administration assured Joe Ottomanelli, who brought the matter to their attention, that there had been a clerical error when preparing the notice.

Township Attorney Holly Schepisi told Ottomanelli, a Demarest Avenue resident, that the zone wasn’t being changed; instead, the existing “B” residential zone would remain and be extended to include the un-zoned parcel.

“We are not changing its zone,” summarized Mayor Joseph Blundo. “We are giving it a zone.”
