Construction of the new DPW building nears completion

(by Maggie Fazeli Fard - June 11, 2008)

At the April 29 meeting of the River Vale Council, Township Engineer Dennis Harrington of T&M Associates estimated that construction of the new DPW building would be finished by mid-May in advance of Memorial Day celebrations.

Close to one month after the expected completion date, Harrington was visibly frustrated Monday night when he told the mayor and council members that the township’s new DPW building still wasn’t done.

Harrington said that the contractor told him that morning, June 9, that “the work in his control” will be completed by the end of this week. That, said Harrington, still leaves utilities to be set up.

Harrington said that electricity would most likely be set up by the middle of this week, but that he was “not as confident” about water and gas.

“I told the contractor that he is responsible for all of the work,” said Harrington, “including utilities.”

Harrington added optimistically that there have not been any additional delays reported due to high temperatures and that he anticipates getting a certificate of occupancy by the end of this week.
