PBA Local 303 to erect Memorial

In light of the recent death of Montvale Police Officer Denis Murphy, PBA Local 303 will erect a memorial to honor him and past fallen officers.
Murphy, 42 years old and an 18-year veteran of the Montvale Police Department, died on May 24 in a motorcycle crash after striking a temporary construction median in New York City. Also killed in the accident was his girlfriend, Tina Kelly.
According to a letter from PBA President Bruce Piatt to the Montvale Mayor and Council, the Fallen Officers Memorial would be comprised of a flag pole planter and sitting area, made up of engraved stone benches.
The memorial would be located between the police department parking lot and the borough employee’s south parking lot on the grounds of the Municipal Complex at 12 Mercedes Drive.
Piatt also wrote that the memorial would be installed by professional contractors at no cost to the borough.
On Tuesday, June 10, the borough council granted the PBA permission to erect the memorial on municipal property.
