Team takes home league championship

The Park Ridge High School’s Varsity Boys Basketball Team won the league championship this year, the first time since 2002. The Park Ridge High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team was honored at a recent board of education meeting in recognition of the team’s first league championship since 2002.
Chris Brown, the district’s athletic director, said, “Over the past season, the boys brought a tremendous amount of excitement to the gym on a regular basis. There were many highlights throughout the season.”
Brown said the team’s defeat of rivals Cresskill and Bogota in the first week of the season, “was certainly a sign of things to come. The team also had thrilling wins over Leonia and New Milford, and a County Tournament victory over Wood-Ridge.” Brown said the game, played to packed gym, was distinguished by, “a great team effort and solid free-throw shooting down the stretch to hold onto the win.”
The team also celebrated individual players’ career milestones. “Both Jessie Buckman and Vince Richmond surpassed the 1,000 point mark. Vince also became the school’s all time leading scorer [1,734 points] and rebounder [1,364 rebounds].”
Brown said Park Ridge clinched the division, “when they defeated Leonia at home, giving them their first league title since 2002.”
Team members were each presented with a certificate of achievement and a championship sweatshirt.
