The Park Ridge High School Girls Varsity Track & Field Team defended their titles for the third year in a row, going undefeated in the league and winning the League Championship Meet.
The team and their coaches were honored at a recent board of education meeting as was head coach Connie Washnik, this year’s Bergen County Scholastic League Olympic Division Track & Field Coach of the Year. Washnik described the girls as “easy to coach, cooperative, and they represented the school in a terrific manner.”
Chris Brown, the district’s athletic director provided a list of highlights from the team’s season:
Undefeated BCSL Season
BCSL Meet Champions
35 school record-holders
Sent 12 team members to Bergen County Meet of Champions
Sent three members to State Meet of Champions
Three sectional champions
Six members named to First Team All-BCSL
Five members named to Second Team All-BCSL
Six members Honorable Mention All-BCSL
Three members received Bergen County recognition
Brown commended the team on their highly successful season and, looking ahead to next year, said, “All of this success and the team will return next year with all but four members who are graduating. They will be sorely missed.”
Summing up the overall performance of the school’s teams this school year, Brown said, “This has been a tremendous year in athletics. All tolled, we captured six Bergen County Scholastic League Championships, two Bergen County Championships, and three State Sectional Championships. Many of our student-athletes and coaches have been recognized for the work they performed in the gym and on the playing fields. I am extremely proud of all of them.”
