Pascack Valley is playing to win
(by Erin Patricia Griffiths - July 30, 2008)
The Pascack Valley Ravens suffered a loss in their first district-playoff game on Saturday, July 26, finishing 5-4 against the Phillipsburg Alpha Braves at Jannarone Field in Parsippany.
But with a double elimination tournament, the team had the chance to play again on Sunday, July 27, and finished with a 13-2 mercy rule win over Watchung in eight innings (playoff games are nine innings).
Sean Liddy pitched well on Saturday, but the team was unable to score the runs needed to beat their opponents.
On Sunday, JJ Moran pitched, with strong offense behind him. Max Hourigan hit a grand slam to give his team a 7-2 lead. “After the grand slam, our offense went up to the plate to hit the ball, which they did,” said Coach Mike Hourigan in an e-mail after the game. “Both days our defense played exceptional, a lot of hustle and some great plays. This team is playing to win.”
The Ravens were scheduled to play again on Tuesday night.
