Bob Dill, pictured here, and his wife, Marianne, who owned and operated The Rink in Montvale, recently donated $10,000 to the Bergen Community College Foundation. The funds are earmarked for scholarships for select students who enroll in the college’s Meadowlands campus, which opened in July in an office building Lyndhurst . A permanent campus will be built and is expected to be open by 2012.

Marianne and Bob Dill are familiar names to many in the Pascack Valley . They owned and operated the Rink in Montvale for decades before its closure in 2007. They were well known in the area for their generosity and willingness to support local charitable causes.

The Dills, now retired and living in Franklin Lakes , continue to support the community at large. They recently established a scholarship fund for the benefit Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands students. They donated $10,000 to the Bergen Community College Foundation, which supports student scholarships, faculty and staff development, construction and other special programs at the college. They recognize the importance of providing scholarships, especially for the college’s new facility in Lyndhurst , which will provide significant workforce training for area businesses.

The Dill’s scholarship is earmarked for first-time entrants of the college’s Bergen at the Meadowlands facility in Lyndhurst . Applicants must possess a “B” or better high school grade point average, cannot have graduated from high school more than two years prior to enrolling at the college and must exhibit a financial need. During the 2008-2009 academic year, three, $1,000 scholarship awards from the Dills’ gift will be presented; the remaining balance will be awarded in future years.

Bergen at the Meadowlands opened in July and encompasses more than 14,000 square feet of space in a Lyndhurst office complex, and offers credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing courses, certificate and professional development programs and workforce training.

A permanent campus located between Meadowlands Xanadu and the future stadium to be occupied by the NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets in East Rutherford , is expected to break ground in 2010 and open by 2012.

On the importance of scholarships, Marianne Dill said, “It is a wonderful feeling when you see the student recipients and the effect of the scholarship. You see how helpful the scholarships really are.”

Bob Dill, who is chair of the foundation’s board of directors, said, “The Meadowlands facility is something that is needed in that community. I think it is great to see how the college has expanded to work and interact with the corporate world.”
